The Internet is full of “make money at home” scams, which is why this article focuses on the legitimate ways to supplement their income. These are ideas I’ve done before so I know they are real and you’ll get paid.
- Freelance writing –Freelance writing is becoming an increasingly popular way to bring in an extra income while setting your hours. From copywriting to blogging and editing, jobs are out there. The higher your skill level, the more you might find yourself to be in high demand. There are many sites that post freelance jobs daily such as Freelance Writing Gigs and Online Writing Jobs. You should not have to be a paid member for any site as you are building clips and applying to freelance writing gigs.
2.Become an online tutor, English as a Second Language instructor.
As one of the fastest global industries, online tutoring is quickly becoming in demand. By the year 2017, the private tutoring market alone will top $100 billion. All it takes is making yourself available to students by answering their questions, uploading tutorials and sharing your notes. By sharing your knowledge and expertise, you can be rewarded well. Smartthinking is one place to apply as a tutor. The pay is slightly higher for advanced degrees. Note that more places are looking for degree holders. One place to market your services is on this site like AceYourCollegeClasses.com where the earning potential is unlimited. My most recent teaching gig is through Language Trainers. Each week, I teach foreign students using Skype.
- Participate in online surveys.
Some surveys allow you to build points that you can transfer into cash while others offer cash or a chance to be entered in an Amazon gift card drawing. There are many scam survey opportunities but I’ve found this one to be completely legitimate with unlimited possibility for growth.
- Sell advertising space on your website, ezine or other marketing materials. I was able to add a few hundred dollars over a few months when one of my sites increased in its Google ranking. Many of these small businesses are looking at sites that appear on the first page of Google on a keyword search to help them get the word out about their products and services. If you own and maintain a site, consider advertising webspace for these opportunities.
5.Sell your skills on fiverr.com
Perhaps you’ve heard about Fiverr.com, but how you tried marketing your services on it? It’s one of the very first and largest microservice sites on the Internet. The basic premise is simple: people log on to Fiverr in search of various services, and you as the service provider agree to perform certain tasks in exchange for $5. You can offer almost any kind of service or gig from website building tasks, to building backlinks to a website, audio and video services.
6.Sell your unused or used books online. Amazon offers two ways of selling your books – by opening a seller account or through its trade-in program. Other legitimate online sites like this one pay upfront for used textbooks. Both allow you to ship the books for free and still get paid!
7.Become an online guide. Guides have in-depth knowledge or expertise in a specific area. If you are passionate about a specific topic, consider becoming an online expert guide. About.com guides start earning $725 a month, but many make well over that with page-view growth. There are many topics still open!
8.Become a coach. Coaches support learners in achieving a specific professional or personal goal. There are many kinds of coaches including life and relationship coaches, dating coaches and writing coaches among many others. There are many ways to get certified – one way is through the International Coaching Federation. Check to see if you are able to transfer credits from a previous course of study. As a writing coach, I help my clients stay accountable and productive.
9.Sell your products on TeacherPayTeachers.com. The concept is quite simple: you design products, worksheets, charts, checklists – anything that a busy teacher might need. You don’t have to be a teacher to upload products and you can upload as many products you for any subject or age level listed. I pocket about $50 a month from the products I design for teachers teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) students.
10.Participate in an online focus group. Companies will pay you to give feedback on products they are currently marketing and testing if you fit the required demographics they are looking for. Your opinion will give the testers an idea of whether to continue with the product. Many focus groups can be done online. Some pay as high as $100 for a two hours worth of participation.
As you can see, there are plenty of real and reliable ways to make money by working at home. The secret is knowing how to distinguish the scams from the legitimate jobs.
