After conducting a recent online survey for my peeps on how I could help them more effectively, I discovered that a large number wanted to learn more about the concept of branding. Since I work with small business owners and authors, branding seemed like an obvious way to go.
This is a THREE part series about Branding. Today we’ll get clear on a general level what branding as a concept means.
Branding. It’s one of those “over my head” buzzy type words that small business owners and authors don’t want to think about– perhaps because it feels too elusive or abstract. Or maybe because they don’t know where to start so it’s hard to wrap their head around the concept.
When someone visits your site, they will often wonder what they think you do VERSUS what you actually do. This is behind the scenes of how branding works. “Branding”is actually the most personal and approachable concept you can imagine and can really make you accessible. People just need to understand it differently.
In one word. Your PERSONA.
Let’s think about the well-known quote by Maya Angelou who said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
What will you say or do online that will impact the way your peeps FEEL?
This is really the heart of branding.
Branding works the psyche AND the emotions.

It is my mission to help business owners and authors share their unique stories and build their personal brand from the ground up by helping them provide quality content strategically whether it’s blogging their book, content marketing or email marketing or campaigns.
My story allows me to be vulnerable so my target peeps can see themselves in my story. As Dr. Brene Brown has said many times on the OWN network, “To be vulnerable is to have the courage to be SEEN.”
So my personal “story” brand helps activate certain feelings in my peeps. I hold an intention for how I want them to remember me. I want them to feel safe, empowered, comfortable, secure, supported as I support them with valuable content to help build their business, platform and brand.

There are so many ways to be seen online these days.
You can blog about an aspect of your business or take a “how-to” video.
You can upload an image of your crafts to Etsy, Instagram or Pinterest.
So…here I am asking you… just how do you want your brand to be seen?
